I already heard abt this forum ..know little little things abt sound proofing, sound aquostics for control room and vocal booth..
im from chennai..i have read abt room ratios also for a studio to design..but since i start new ,i need to know minimum square feet required for a budjet studio .so that i work out the expenses for the new studio.i would like to take place on rent may be house and not commercial building ,rent place 5 kms away from airport and no factories by side, residing inside the busy city.
please advise .minimum square feet advisable creating for vocal booth and control room .i have near field monitors set up.

Re: IM NEW TO THIS ,LOOKING FOR TO HAVE NEW STUDIO
Hi " khrisna", and welcome.
There is no real minimum size for a home studio: some people have built them in small spaces, and John has even built one inside a shipping container.
However, there are recommendations from organizations such as the ITU and EBU, and they recommend a minimum floor area of 20 m2 for a critical listening room for normal stereo work, and 30 m2 for multichannel work.
For a vocal booth, make it as big as you can. In general, small sounds bad, and smaller sounds worse. A good size would be about 2m x 3m, but if you only have a smaller space, then it might be possible too, if you treat it correctly.

Re: IM NEW TO THIS ,LOOKING FOR TO HAVE NEW STUDIO
i was active here 2013,after now im using this site. i have some knowledge about stud walls, rockwool sound proofing by reading the john sayers forums.
now we moved another place
presently i have own house.
ground floor : 13 ft L X 10 ft W X 9 ft H and connected to this store room is there but we dont to use because it look like carbage.
i plan in this room for both control and voice room -13 ft L X 10 ft W X 9 ft H
note: single channel voice recording, stereo mixing ,mastering will be done for ,Tv ads ,short film and latter films(trying) will be added. i expect mixing room flat response possible from 20hz -20khz
please guide a model room for this ,i can donate for this.im ready follow the guide lines.attached room model by hand (sorry i dont know to use auto cad or any drawing software)
notes:no airport,no factory, my room is at residential place.
thanks

Re: IM NEW TO THIS ,LOOKING FOR TO HAVE NEW STUDIO
I'm the only moderator on the forum at present, and there's a lot of activity, with many active threads and builds going on.... but there's only one of me! Unfortunately, I'm really busy with several projects for paying customers, as well as my private life, so sometimes it takes me a long time to answer a post. Right now I have a list of about 71 posts that I need to reply to, and only a limited amount of time in the day where I can do that. We provide help for FREE here on the forum, but it can take a while to get answers. If that's not what you are looking for, then you can purchase paid consulting services or studio design services. Contact John Sayers himself by PM (Private Message) and ask for a quote. If John can't help, there are several other forum members who can. Contact me by PM for details.

Ok I'm following ..
Ok here I need some clarification
If I have home brick wall rendered 10 inch ,I build a stud wall like in picture how dB I get isolation theoretically ..

Re: IM NEW TO THIS ,LOOKING FOR TO HAVE NEW STUDIO
Here you ask how many decibels of isolation you get, but in the diagram you want to know what the STC rating is. So I'm really not sure what you are asking! Do you want the STC rating for that construction, or do you want to know how many dB of isolation that construction will provide? That is two very, very different things. If I have home brick wall rendered 10 inch ,I build a stud wall like in picture how dB I get isolation theoretically ..
Calculating STC rating is a pain, and I don't have the time to do that. Besides, STC numbers are useless for studios, since they don't tell you anything about isolation in low frequencies. So i did not bother calculating the STC rating.
But I did calculate the isolation for that construction: You would get roughly 55 dB of isolation with that. I used:
250 mm brick
100 mm air gap
12 mm plywood
Considering that you do not have any insulation in the cavity, the isolation would not be good in low frequencies. The resonant frequency of that wall would be about 72 Hz, so the wall would not isolate below about 100 Hz. It would only isolate well, starting at about 150 Hz and above. There is not enough mass on the inner-leaf, the air gap is small, and there is no insulation in the air gap, so that wall just will not perform very well.

Re: IM NEW TO THIS ,LOOKING FOR TO HAVE NEW STUDIO
dear bro
i understood better isolation than stc...thanks very thanks
which cavity u refer ?
air gap or cavity in studs?
any way im attaching hand diagram a and b ,which will be good for vocal booth isolation ,
how much isolation i will get bro....can it reach 65 db? this 65 db is enough for vocal booth construction ?
near my area no airport or factories or.heavy lorries, it is normal residential street ,
