I noticed that, and was figuring that the 4.2 model would be about right for me, but I can't see any specs on how noisy the internal unit is: I'm looking for something as quiet as possible. I don't care too much if the compressor unit makes a noise, but I'd prefer the inside unit to be really quiet.

it looks like a cool idea... you still need a return in the room though since it is supplied via a 1" or 2" tube and the stale air needs to be extracted. it looks like the air change rate is about 1 time every 2 hours for a 1000ft3 (26m3) room which may be low for very active session rooms. @ around 25dbA on low it should be quiet enough for the CR.

Any climate control system that makes ANY sound is really detrimental to a studio.
The only way I've got silent cool or warm air into the control room or booth is to put the main unit (refrigerated or reverse cycle) on the outside of the building (must be covered by a Plenum chamber to muffle noise and vibration) and run the silver ducting material into the room/s with outlets cut as required.
The cheapest option is to tie the ducting (raw) to the ceiling with cable ties on hooks and to use silver tape to fix joins and the end plug.
This sounds ugly but it actually looks ok and is extremely effective.
The fact that the raw silver ducting tube is going along the ceiling minimises it's acoustic effect more than installing a metal grate (hole in the ceiling). It actually helps a bit with acoustic treatment and can dissipate comb filtering.

Stuart, I've heard this A/C with the fresh air option ON, and it was pretty quiet. I've heard normal A/C's without ventilation being a lot louder than this.

It's the model I'm going to use for my studio. (2 of them)
Although I will have a seperate ventilation system...
The reason I'm going to get this is for it's supposedly "Good Air purification and Humidity Control"

I was thinking of using it as a ventilation system as well, but went with the "typical fan-silencer" alternative.

This only brings air in, it doesn't take it out as well.
I suppose you would also require an exit route for the air if you use this. So you would have also a hole with silencer?

I had a Daikon unit like this to control humidity when I lived on the big island in Hawaii. Normal outdoor humidity ranged from 50-90% relative humidity, too much for a Bosendorfer Grand piano (recommended 40-50% RH). It heats, cools, and dehumidifies air that is recirculated in the room. My room was 24ft x 34ft with a cathedral ceiling 14ft high at the peak, roughly the equivalent of a 1000sf space. With the single Daikon unit on all of the time, it kept the humidity between 45-50. No perceptible noise unless the fan was on highest speed. The installed cost for this 3 years ago was about $4000 US. The compressor unit outside was also quiet, but not as quiet as the inside, since it has a much larger fan and moves more air.

Hello everyone,

I just stumpled upon this forum and this post via Google. I'm running a small project studio (control room and recording both, about 39 m² total) in northern Germany.

I do have a number of kind of expensive acoustic instruments (guitars and violins) at my place and I'm a little bit worried about whether or not my place doesn't hurt my instruments over time. We currently don't have an AC so we have to open the windows at least two or three times a day to get in some fresh air. However during winter it's rather cold outside (it depends but it can get to -20° C) so the temperature difference is quite big. In summer we get quite a lot of rain as well.

So I'm wondering if it would make sense to maybe install an AC with multiple outlets and a few of these humidity sensors (or similar) across the studio to have ideal room temperature and humidity the whole year without having to open the windows all the time.
