Hello,
I have been on this forum for the last couple of weeks amd am learning a lot! In July, I am having a new home built and will be putting a studio (first time) in the basement. Here are the dimensions I have to work with. It will be a PC based studio. I hope this basic drawing makes sense.

Sorry for the lack of info. Here is the floor plan of the basement. There will be 9' ceilings and I would like to be able to access the control room via the living area for my convenience.

Welcome.
Well looking at it seems like you have a decent enough space, but what do you want out of it? What are you going to use it for.If you have been looking through the site for a while then you have come across other plans that you could get ideas from.

Start with that.. try a layout that could work for you for what your trying to do.. and then post it for some feedback.

I never thought to extend the control room like that. The access from the living area is what I wanted. My way of thinking had me locked into a design that was based on 3 rooms at 10'6" x 12'6'', 14'6"x11', and 20'6" x 12'6". This is much better. I may shorten the studio at the entrance from the garage and make a storage area that will hold 4 drum kits and other gear. Now I have to finish reading your manual (on SAE). Thanks again. I'll keep you posted on the progress and final plans.

I have another question. From what I have seen on this site, for the most part, everyone is using Smart Draw. Which version? Pro, Pro +, or Standard? I have been messing around with the trial version (also TurboCad Designer), and would like to stay in line with this group. This is the best site I have seen regarding studio design and construction. BAR NONE!

The only real difference between the versions is the amount of icons you get with them right?
IN that case i would stick with the standard one, unless ofcourse youd be missing out on that ultimator speaker icon

I'm just full of questions. This may seem dumb, but is there some kind of FAQ that explains the objects in the plans? Are there certain objects you use to show bass traps, glass, etc. (in Smart Draw)?

I really like the design John came up with. Just wondering how the addition of a storage area affects anything. It cuts the size of the studio down from 20'6" x 12'6' to about 15'6" x 8'. I added double door access through the studio to store 3 drum kits and other gear. I also added folding door access outside of the studio for the drum kit I use for most live gigs. I didn't draw the additions to scale. Just enough to get an idea. I thought maybe I could Hang a heavy drape over the double doors if I wanted a deader room or remove the curtain for a liver room.

yes that's Ok except - why make the wall parallel to it's opposite wall - here you can create some angles in the room.
