First off, this site is great! The picture is of my first attempt at squeezing a studio/control room into a spare room in my house. It is at the end of the main building and their is no floor above or below. The left wall in the closet extends to the top of the drawing and is a supporting wall. Since it used to be a garage that is where the door was located. Any suggestions?

Do you really need that lobby? looks like a huge space waster and its keeping you from having contact with th e drummer during tracking.
Also, if my dodgy metric conversion is working, your control room is tiny. Could be a lot bigger.
Have you ha da look a t the garage studio layouts on the SAE site?

Huh? Can you highlight that in the drawing? Is this a empty room now? Show us what can't be moved (like support walls/beams) and your proposed design. That would be nice:)



Looks like plenty of space. What do you plan to record etc? Need room for clients?

Browse more of John's plans. You will want a larger control room in any case; think about splaying the CR walls, making non paralell walls for your tracking rooms.

Take a stab and I'm sure a nice plan will come together. As much detail as possible makes it easier to add suggestions:)

Thanks Dave & Anton! I have looked at the SAE site as well as other plans on this board. This is what I came up with. It is an adaptation of the SAE Corner Control Room design. Since there were no dimensions on the SAE drawing, I did my best to fit in as much of it as I could given my current space. I am still not sure what to do with the space in the lower right of the pic. The door on the bottom of the pic leads to the outside of the house. I was hoping to use it as an entrance way.

I think your wasting a huge amount of space with that entrance,
what purpose does it have except being an entrance?
Why not ditch the "entrance" and add it to the studio space for example.
The Control room looks a lot better now, but maybe still a bit smallish...

Thanks for the feedback Anton. The entrance door is the only way into the studio from the outside. The other door leads to my family room. Anyone coming in would be using the "entrance" door exclusively. Also, I did not want to have to do anything to the existing windows. The Control Room is almost 11 feet from the double glass window to the corner. I thought that would be OK. Of course there is no wall treatment yet so that depth will shrink a little.
