what is rc, real quick,

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

RC stands for Resilient Channel - it's used to isolate the wall panels on one side of a wall frame from those on the other side, to improve sound isolation. For a more thorough understanding, you can download the USG manual here
