hello from brazil!
Although I have previously met Mr.John At PSW and congratulated for the very good on-line manual, I have just discovered this very nice forum via Mr. Ethan Winner. I will be here very often!LOL
I have a control room that had that very old silly approach of completly dead rooms . Compared to another room I build a few years ago myself with my father, it really sucks. I decided to get away of all that sonex/sonitec foam panels and also eliminate a dead small vocal booth that just damaged symetry inside my / close to my sweet spot.
The room is a rectangle, 6 meters x 3.6 meters, height = 2.7meters.
People have advised me to put the desk across the 3.6m dimension. As people enter the room, they will see the desk and behind it a window with a reasonably nice view from the sea and of my city.
please, If I am writing too many stupid non sense tech stuff, correct me. I am amoron concerning room acoustics!LOL
Based in my other room ( used to record choirs, drums, vocals), and is the closest example of something I can alter and in fact sounds cool and very nice..... I used an arrangement of wood, rugged stones and bricks in unparallel arrangement. I would like to post pics here so another people would criticize , try and give their opinions.
Now it is a complete different situation. It is a control room, where I will be mixing and junior mastering my stuff.
I was thinking of applying in one wall: a) 1.5 meters of height concerning this bricks arrangement ( can be seen in pic) and from the 1.5 to 2.7 ( up to the ceiling), a brazilian wood named Cedrinho/ Angelim Pedra. I dunno how to translate it to english but all I can say it is very good stuff.
My big doubts are:
1) what can I put in the parallel walls, the 6 meter walls of the basic rectangle.?
2) can I use rugged cool looking stone in one wall an the other one the same wood i mentioned earlier?
Also, I eliminated my unhealthy old dirty carpet from the floor.
3) I also intend to apply wood. Any special care?
I decided to put desk not facing the window also because i was thinking of preventing reflections from the glass and so.
If you could take a quick look at these pics and help me, I would be greatly thanked!
I will be starting the rebuilding next week.
Also, I use Monitor Ones from Alesis. Soon upgrading to Dynaudio BM/BM6´s.
Also important to observe: My room use(d) to have a boomy frequency around 115/135hz ( maybe Bb note). I know bass traps must be applied. Weel, too much for a while. LOL
Thanks again

please, do not forget that now desk is facing the smaller walls.
below, I attached the picture of the bricks/wood/stone crazy arrangement.
So... can I apply stone to one wall and wood to the other? I have just received an info that stones can be good or bad. I am not applying stones to the walls that monitors throw sound.
Thanks again!

some decisions based on advices and research
1- lowering the ceiling from 2.7 to 2.5 over sweet spo
2 - increasing lx so that ears are furter from front wall
3 - having to consequently diminish lo
4 - keeping curtaing at rear wall for better stero image
5 - not going to make a floating floor
still in doubt:
1 - left and right side walls.. what to apply. if apply wood and sonex or a combi of assymetrical bricks and wood or one wall completly with ruggedstones. any idea of this make sense?
2 - which wood floor thickness?
3 - sweeet spot front wall.. advised to heavily absorb.. which? fiberglass panels? wood?
thanks again

Hi! sorry if it sounds like shouting! no intention! LOL
I am very quiet!
Thanks for your nice info!
a few questions:
a) stones, wood, assymetrical bricks can not do a gud job on parallel side walls??
b) how many 703 fiberglass bass traps boards would do a nice job at this room?
c) the parallel side walls. must they have the same material or can apply wood at left and something else on the right?
it has been a long time since I talked to you at forums.
Hope ya are fine and with enough time to rest!
have a nice weekend Sir!!
thanks again

Jeez, John, I knew that typing in all caps was considered shouting, but I don't know any way to emphasize individual WORDS as if I would speak them slightly louder - Have I been being rude all this time un-intentionally, and if so is there another way? I just thought it made things clearer, like you were actually TALKING to a guy, not in a monotone - what say, should I quit capping words for emphasis, or what? (Might be better to PM me on this, as I might not get back here right away) ... Steve
Soooo, when a Musician dies, do they hear the white noise at the end of the tunnel??!? Hmmmm...
