Change of Attic Studio Layout

Hi all,

I've been mixing records and audio post in my attic for a couple years now and I'm finding it harder to record myself easily, whether sequencing of doing vocals, acoustics and stuff. I want to change the layout of my room to accomodate more composition without adversely affecting the sound. My clients are happy so I want to avoid and sonic snafus.

When we first moved in here, I vaulted the attic ceiling to get some room volume for the studio but also create a nice master bedroom suite for the future when I get a dedicated stuio space to build out. For the moment, I'm stuck here.

The room is definitely NOT symetrical and has all kinds of weird ceiling geometry that I hope the diagrams and photo show. The following posts will have the current layout, a photo and then the new layout in question.

Lemme know whatcha think....

Here's my current layout. I'm in generally the center of the room but at least the speaks are firing down the long dimension. I have tested the room with an RTA and really only have one issue down around 56Hz. There's a lot of 703 on the walls and up in the ceiling space. I think there is too much wasted space right now but it works and I'm used to it.

Hopefully this photo will clear things up. Clear as mudd that is...

You're looking from the top of the stairs over to the windows. The point is to show what the ceiling looks like - totally funky. This shot was taken a long time ago - prior to any treatment being put up. Oh yea, and there's some more gear...

I like the new layout - I'd make those gobos slot resonators as you would probably have low-mid problems with all that 703 sucking out the highs and the slots would add highs back.

Have you tried the new layout??

cheers

Thanks for the approval, John. The gobos are already made as a mod to one of you designs as seen in this thread:

Here's a photo of the slot resonator side used in a vocal session. These things sound GREAT. I've used them for the mix position and recording vocals, acoustics (all the slat side facing in) and other stuff. Can't wait to get a kit of drums around 'em.

I will go ahead with the change. Thanks for the great site....again....and again.
