CHEAPEST Acoustic Foam you will find...!!!

Find out where to get building materials in your local area. If you find a good outlet post it and others will be able to access it through the search engine.

You know, I'm getting pretty pissed off with the recent spam attacks here, but the one this morning from "jaberdor"-whatever-its-name-is, with literally hundreds of spam posts in a few minutes from some new idiot is the last straw.

I, for one, am "out of" here until the moderators do their job and figure out how to stop this sudden flood of spam.

Moderators? Did I say moderators? Oops. Sorry, I forgot: There are no moderators here any more. I don't recall the last time a real live moderator posted here (except for John himself of course, but I imagine that he has his hands full with projects, and he can't do everything himself!).

Perhaps the only other method is to require that all new users jump through hoops to prove that they are bona fide studio builders, BEFORE their first post is ever displayed.

In the meantime, I'm sitting on the side lines. I can't be bothered to fight the spammers for bandwidth, nor sort through hundreds of new posts to find the genuine ones...

Re: CHEAPEST Acoustic Foam COULD VERY WELL KILL YOU!

Post by ADDA »

Yeap ... I saw all that stuff Soundman, & I must admit that I was not impressed by the fact that all those posts were for X,Y & Z x 1000 Viagra & Penis Extensions etc. Thus sorting through the junk to find the real meat on the forum has changed even since I joined. Maybe the Auto log in is to blame, maybe members need to be more vigilant.

Soundman, my reply to Ro was more about how these products are misleading and dangerous, even when used in a proper application, I think all members should be aware of the danger's of polyurethane foam, it's fast ignition & the black hazardous smoke it creates. Sure Foam in many situations is fine, though at least make sure it has some fire retardant composite in the mix, or maybe go for the melamine based product 30%-40% more expensive, though what price a life?

I must admit, I replied to Ro's post in humour as I found the Spam Captions beneath very funny, though also to make a point to those whom do purchase such product, & those whom sell the product. I for one have listed many building alternatives, and search often for more products that can be used safely and inexpensively as the economy of scale differs around the world & this forums vast membership.

I guess we have a few Spam scenarios with this site, Log on with no one knowing, Post without being a member, and Password protection & Profile is very relaxed. Possibly if these things where tightened up we would have access to a forum with less Spam. Maybe the reason we see no "Moderators" is the fact they Log in by stealth?

I would doubt a boycott would help, as we would be hurting those members who genuinely require peoples help thus breaking the pay it forward chain & letting all Spamers win out in the end! I'm not one for Political Flame wars & thus will retract the last post URL and apologise should you have thought I was more advertising such product then warning of it.
Apologies,

Hey Adda, no need to apologize. I wasn't actually commenting on your post at all (even though I guess it looked like it!). I just used a post about Spam to add my own rant. And I agree with your comments on dangerous foam products anyway.

I'm not advocating a boycott, by the way: Just saying that I'm not going to bother trying to wade through hundreds of spam posts to find the real stuff when these floods happen: I'll just sit back and hope that some moderator remembers to log in and fix the problem, drain the mud, and lock the door. Then if I'm still around, I might pop back in again. But my point is that if the moderators can't be bothered to do a good job of policing the forum, then why should I bother either trying to use it? PM still works (until they start spamming that too), so real users can still talk to each other if they need to. But the rest of the forum won't benefit from it, which is sad.

Anyway, my diatribe wasn't directed at you or your post! Sorry if I gave you that impression!

No problem Soundman,
I guess my fight against Cheap "Eslay Foam by Mail" by net order, or Chinese manufactures selling 10 x 2 meter sheets for $100.00 and promising that it will do literally everything it can't really does bother me. To think some kid has a Bedroom full of Foam on all corners "Pumping the "Duf Duf Music" just awaiting for his mates Butane lighter or Match to be "Thrown from the Bong Dude...." is a serious fear. All those Night-clubs that have burnt down in the USA ..... Phooooof! To many Lives Lost.

Stuart you have a very valid point, and maybe it is us whom should ask the Administrators to implement some sort of log in Sequence where "Proof of Life" so to speak is implemented. I do also agree with the "If you made it Show It" Picture idea. To think one of the Highest Numbering Hits on a Post in this section is from a "Guest" .... well that is a little worrying? At the moment I'm editing a Dialogue EDL List & jumping on this forum, it's just to easy to log in.

Possibly it may be members such as you and I whom start a campaign (Not in descent of course) to tighten up entry to the forum, this way I could be PM...ing you safely on site, or leave some serious contact details that would enable more contact between members. At present you pretty much have access to "All" members details, so as the site is not secure, people leave a great deal out apart from those whom have a "Product" to push - (No Names of Real, Ready or Other offenders mentioned).

Yes they contribute to this and other forums in their own way, though the Tags, URL's & web-links at the bottom of each post does commercialise this site as indeed others like it, when most members DIY anyway. I think this problem that has arisen may require some extensive thought and idea processes. I'm happy to help with my knowledge to anybody whom required it, indeed I myself have yet to ask even a simple "Question in a Post" on this forum as the vast knowledge base already written here is huge.

I think the problem of people jumping on this forum and asking Q & A straight off the bat is rather foolish, I know I trawled the site for a year prior to joining, and still am trawling through it. I can only say Stuart... where to from here for change?

Possibly in trying to make this site the premier, most user friendly & Internet safe, repository of knowledge and host of the best Acoustic Brains in Cyber space while still catering for all, be it the bedroom rock out, or High End 5 room facility. Ok...... My head is spinning now!
Thanks Soundman.
