I think I need a patchbay...no?

Post by lodstudios »

So, I am getting ready to build the studio. I am trying to figure out how to get everything wired up correctly.
I have decided I want to use wall plates such as these, http://www.redco.com/shopexd.asp?id=487, in the control room and in the live room to act as more of a through box. Are there any other options I should look at? I have looked for "wall boxes" but I see nothing but these gang plates. (Which I am fine with)

My question is this...

I Want to be able to record drums and want to be able to use different preamps for different applications at different times. I think this means I need a patchbay...right? I am assuming I will have the XLR out from the control room wall into my patchbay via TRS. This will allow me to assign my patchbay outs into my interface and vice versa, and thus allow me to send any piece of gear to another. Does this make sense? I am sorry, I have read the "Wiring" Forum on the site all day and I just have a hard time visualizing how things will end up. Is these an eaiser way for this to be done?

Thanks!
