Guys,
Here is a response of my room, both speakers. REW was the program, with the RS meter. The RS meter is the reason I have limited it to 3K.
Room currently has rear corner traps 5-6 inches thick. Front corners are about double this, and some 5-6 inch traps behind speakers. there is RFZ with a 2inch rockwool cloud. This room is actually a garage. I cant possibly get enough extra room for traps to effect the problem in the low bass here. Is there some other types of traps I could consider for say 100hz - 300 hz?
Also, importantly, where does one draw a finish line? Or how close does one aim to get before you call it acceptable for accurate mixing, within reason.

If you can get the LF response (below 300 Hz) to within a 10 dB (+/- 5) span, you're doing really well.mondo wrote:where does one draw a finish line? Or how close does one aim to get before you call it acceptable for accurate mixing, within reason.

Ok, with much mucking around moving speakers, I now am at this stage. Thoughts?
Its going in the right direction , I think.
Sounds good, but Im not satisfied. Kinda sorry I started measuring, its becoming a obsession . getting closer to + - 10db below 300hz.

If this is the best you can get with placement only, that means you need more bass traps. The entire front and rear wall are good places, as are wall-floor and wall-ceiling corners.

fair enough Eythan, but at what point are we making the room too dead?! I fear Im already past that point and I need more traps? Oh well haha. The carpet is just lying over concrete, guess I could just roll that up. Good idea?

Bass traps don't have to make the room too dead at mid and high frequencies. For example, rigid fiberglass with thin cardboard attached in front absorbs bass but not highs.

you can use 3mil plastic or check with your local cardboard distributors but you'd want something like 1/32" thick max. it would be best to ensure it is fire retardant.
