Soundtracs desk issues

Post by Earshot »

Hi there,

Im not sure if this is the best place for this but have a query regarding my mid-80s Soundtracs FME (like MRX) 24ch desk. When tracking through the desk i seem to be getting random spikes in the audio path. These spikes make an audible clipping noise and show up as a clip within my DAW. There seems to be no pattern to them although i have only tried tracking drums so far. In the meantime i have left the desk connected to my Digi 003 and have been using the 003 preamps. The signal is therefore still passing through the desk but doing it this way no spikes occur, only when using the desk preamps. Is it likely some opamps have been fried? I haven't checked every channel so far but the ones i have, have had this problem. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Cheers for any help,

Matt

You might want to check the condition of both the opamps and the elcos...

Good luck!
