Instruments hanging on walls

Post by JRE Productions »

Hi John,

Thanks for the help so far.

I have 3 electric guitars, 3 accoustic guitars, a dobro, and a mandolin that I like to leave out for studio work. These are the "go to" axe's in my studio.

I would like to hang them in either the control room or small tracking room. Question is, will they effect the room? Once concern is that the accoustics could cause overtones if I don't mute the strings? The second thought was would they help act as some defusion on a otherwise fairly flat wall? If I do hang them up, do I want to attach to the studs or between the studs? Meaning will the stud absorb the possible freq of the guitars vibrating or will it act like a sound board?

Thanks,

Joe

Interesting question Joe. I assume they will act as diffusors when hung on the wall - the acoustics will resonate for sure - but a piece of cloth threaded trough the strings shoud stop that. I'd attach them to the stud.

cheers
