I'm going to write a thread for my case, but before that I would just win some time. I'm planning to place my monitors (Event TR8) on support, but I would like to build it myself. Do you think that a square section column could do the job correctly ? I was wondering of a column made in wood and to fill it in with sand of maybe half concrete and half sand so as to avoid any resonnance and to have a stable and solid support... does somebody already tried it ?
OK. I have my monitors mounted onto auralex decouplers, which are on quiklok purpose built stands on SPIKES onto a wooden laminate floor on concrete. Question - do the spikes actually do more harm than good? I can often 'feel' a 'rumble' through my feet when the volume is raised (bass presumably). Someone on another forum suggests spikes are a bad idea. I'm confused now

Monitors are Mackie HR624's, which each weigh 12.25Kg.
Checking them, they do have a bit of a wobble
Those speakerstands are light and will flank easy. Making a heavy stand will help "isolate" the waves going through the material (mass law). Easy to make them "jump" on the laminated floor.
Make sure they're stable for starters.
Those auralex decouplers, are they any good? I mean, do they "spring" correctly? (when placing a speaker on those pads, will the material compress a bit. say 10-20%?)

they do...
i've got them and i've got my second pair of speakers on Thomann's own label. But the one by Auralex are much firmer, which would be much better with medium sized speakers I think. The Thomann's are quite soft.
