Hello guys.
I don't know what you call fiberglass 703...
Here in Brazil I already know rockwool, and there is something very similar to rockwool but made from "glass".
Is this the fiberglass panel?
Do you guys have any pics of this material?
I bet what I have here is something that would translate to glass wool or something similar :)
Thanks!

Jer,

I think you're correct that rockwool is much like fiberglass, but is made from spun rock fibers instead of spun silicon. Someone please correct me if that's not quite right. As for pictures, below is a shot of my wife holding a piece of 703, bending it a little so you can see that it's not really "rigid" like a piece of wood is.

Sure, Ethan, just give your poor wife the dirty job, getting those itchy fibers all over her just so you can look good...

Only thing I might add is that the terms "rockwool" and "mineral wool" are sort of used interchangeably, but some forms of this material are derived from "rock" and others are derived from "leftovers" in metals manufacturing plants, where they take the "slag" or "leftovers" from the process and grind them up (not sure how this particular process is done) and then "spin" them into fibrous material.

Some manufacturers actually refer to their product as "slag wool", I don't remember which ones though.

The end result is a similar matrix of "interstices", sort of like the compressed fiberglas made by Owens Corning, Knauf, Insulco, and possibly others - so, acoustically, all these materials act a lot alike.

Geronimo, do any of those brand names sound familiar to you? If so, that's where you might find what you're looking for - In fact, you're probably right about this "similar to rockwool, but glass" product - if you have any more info on it, please post it here and we'll check it out... Steve
