quiz question about sketchup

I'm designing on a Mac.
I can open sketchup files done on both Mac and Non-Mac computers.

Can people on non-Mac systems open up sketchup files that were done on a Mac?

I don't know, but it's easy to figure out! I'm using a PC, so if you make a file on your Mac and post it here, I'll see if I can open it. I guess it should work.

Thanks,
I have a couple of local people here working on it. But they either have ancient computers, wrong OS versions, or lack of time.
Maybe I can kill 2 birds here. I have this file posted on the SPEAKER forum.
I was wondering if this the correct incarnation of Johns design.
Thanks for assist.

Yup, it works fine for me! Opened no problems. I'm using a Sony Vaio notebook with Windows Vista (unfortunately - soon to be upgraded to XP).

Where did you find that soffit design, by the way? That's exactly what I need for my control room design!!!! Thanks!

thanks for the prompt reply.
I designed that from John's notes and other posts that I've been reading here.
I couldn't fully comprehend his 2D design on the Speaker Forum, so I attempted to do it in 3D so I could understand it better.
I'm still waiting for someone to confirm that I did it right.
I tried to be as detailed as possible.
I think the only thing missing from my design is a brace that would go on the back wall to hold up the back of the shelf that the speaker is sitting on.

Anyhoo, glad that the files are compatible.
Thanks again.

Yes the files are compatible and No, that's not my design. :)

Thanks John,
Are you implying that the soffit design is somewhat universal that you've adopted, or that my version is flawed.
Thanks for your time.

crap - ok- thanks for that - Back to the design page. Not sure where I went wrong but I'll figure it out.
Maybe someone will jump in and give me a hint.

what could he do to make it right? i made the exact same mistake as he did and, needless to say, i'm having troubles including comb filtering. i really want to build it right according to the design but i'm not entirely sure what i did wrong.

could you please elaborate on where it is flawed and how to fix it?

the only thing i remember doing differently is i used the plywood platform as the bottom of my speaker box, which is the same thing the poster did. is this the only flaw?

It's from a thread called small studio in 3D in the design forum.

Thank you John! This is an awesome studio design. My space was similar, i wish i would have built mine with this design hehe.

I notice this design doesn't have the ventilation shafts, though.

The only things I did differntly from this one, and your design, was I placed the top ventilation shafts about 5 inches above the speaker. I should have put them close to the ceiling, as far away from the speaker as possible. The other thing is I didn't seal the back to be an airtight space, but it is open and connected with the other wall frames.

I do notice that this design does not decouple the wood box the speaker is in from the wall frame. What is the purpose of this? I thought you would want the opposite of that...

Thanks again, John!

The whole structure should be built as rigid as possible hence it all locking together.

Oh, I understand. Thanks, John!

Now, is the fact that I didn't leave it an airtight space in the back compromising my sound? Or the fact that I left the ventilation shafts too close to the speaker?
