Okay quick and easy and I apologize for the crude drawing. Just a small project studio that I can have at home for recording bands on a budget, demos, etc. I currently have a larger project studio, but it has its downsides and I'd like to have something at home too that's just mine.

Looks tricky as far as what I have to work with, so it may not even be possible, but I thought I'd ask those with better understanding of studio design.

Dimensions without the 6.5' x 6.5' room are 28'L x 10'W x 7'H. The walls in blue will likely be torn down (nothing looks like a bearing wall), so it's pretty much open. I already have two very small rooms, not shown in the drawing, that will be amplifier iso rooms. I will need a live room for drums, thinking of the 6.5' room for a main iso for vocals and acoustic guitars, but I still need to make a tracking room and control room from the 28 x 10 feet. I just need a clever layout idea. I also need the vox iso and main room to see each other. Also need control room to see main room. Would also be nice for control room to see vox iso. I hope I'm not confusing everyone since it's quite late here and I'm over half asleep. Thanks for taking a second for me.

Oops, I just noticed that my doors are turned wrong, but I'm sure you guys all understand where they are nevertheless.

I'm at a total loss John. All my ideas have ended up with finding that there's a problem with access or space. 10' is really quite narrow, but do you think it could do for a control room? If I run the control room lengthwise at 13' x 10' I may have enough room for both, but then, I don't know. And I'm retarded with Smart Draw, so it's been nearly impossible for me to use for ideas so I resorted to graph paper, but I just mostly need advice on whether the room dimensions will even be sufficient, since I've no experience in an area that is this size.

So I suppose the big question is can it work John? Is there enough space for a sufficient setup? The need would be for a very usable control room where I could trust what I heard. A typical project here will have a budget of $1000 - $1500 and I would need to be able to achieve decent results. Would 10' front to back be even workable for a control room? I guess I'm just lost and afraid of making a big mistake.

I'd suggeat you use the 6.5 sq room as an entrance foyer/booth and enter your control room which faces left to right - then have a studio in the right section with access through a door between the speakers.

Something like this maybe? I'm terrible with Smart Draw, obviously. If that's the way it will work best, then I'll have to put casters on my desk so it can slide out of the way for loading drums and such. Thanks for your help so far. Looks like the Smart Draw watermark obscures the live room with it's triangle splaying.

Yes that's what I meant - your other options are:

1 - reverse what you have so you walk into the studio first and the control room is on the right. It means you have to go thru the studio to get to the control room - which is a drag - but you can get your drums in easier.

2 - rotate the control room 90 degrees so the 6.5 sq becomes a rear extension of the control room and the studio is still on the right.
