Sticks 'n stones...

As said, last weekend we the masonry job. We closed the 2nd floor completely; broke out the remaining windows and filled it with bricks!
I hired a contractor for this job since we know zilch 'bout bricks.. The masonry team consisted of 3 pros who did a great job.
I contracted them to do only the brick-laying part. I had my men standby to supply more bricks, cement, coffee as they build the partial wall. Also agreed to do the finishing touches (like filling remaining gaps, plasterwork etc) So it would be a quick and dirty job for those man. Easy money I'd say. (and less for us to pay

)

Right.
On Thursday we got the bricks and cement delivered at 7:30.
We placed studs on every floor to hold the roof in place. We had to remove a part of the "floating" floor on the 1st floor since the studs where to large in that area. Well, I knew that "floating" floor was pretty crap (build over 15 years ago). But, man! It was even more crap than expected. WHAT the hell where those dudes thinking back than? The "floor" consisted of pallets filled with foam, mattresses, jackets, chairfillings, dead bodies, a bag of chips, a door and more crap. Yes, CRAP indeed.
Well, the floor's gonna get ripped anyhow so why not today.

Hey Ro...congratulations on the birth of your son. Children do change the way we look at thinks don't they.

I couldn't help but think, more then once, this is one ambitious job! Anytime you get off the ground level everything changes. They way you move, the way you handle materials, it's all done differently.

And your three flights up!

Others around here have designed, built and completed and your just getting dryed in!

That is an awesom amount of work you and your men have achieved. And taking it all down to existing so you can build it right, wow, that is just dedication to a goal that I have not seen much of anywhere.

Now >this< is a build

@ cram: yes, it felt great. Couldn't sleep the next night, I was too darn exited!

@ X: Yes, kids DO change the way we think. But I love it.
It sure is an ambitious job, but so am I. I've got this space for nearly 10 years now and never got to it. Plans are on my desk for 5 years or so.. .now, it's time to build that giant! (3 floors, 3 liverooms, 1 controlroom, 1 chilout space)
Hope to get it done so when Daan (my son) is old enough to hit the drums he can slap away at them skins at his dad's very private rehearsal space

Ro is clearly on one hell of a project with all manner of logistical restraints, so just as you, and I know many other onlookers, I say hat's off to you Ro and wish you all the luck a bloke can have!

Soooooooooo, finally an update on my project

Yeah, it's been a hell of a year. So much to do, so little time. I planned to start building when the holidays were over and whatta ya know.. We bought a new house recently... there goes the studiobuild.. haha. Gotta fix my new place first before I get to actually build those rehearsal/studio rooms! aahrg.

Okay, but I still owe ya'll some updates.

- We fixed the new wall (it's now completely closed)
- Replaced a piece of a rafter.
- Cleaned up, a few times
- Put some paint on the rafters
- And today we got our first load of materials.

Here's some pix.
1. Filling the gaps with cement..
2. That rafter has been extended, this is the *before* pic. Forgot to take the *after* pic, you'll have to trust me on this one

3. Bricking in the last gaps (between the rafters which are already painted on this pic)
