16" is enough for a hanger series IMO.

Here's an update of the soffit plans for anybody interested.

I should mention that at John's suggestion, the console's placement has moved closer to the soffit wall, reducing rear console reflections and should help with console control reflections as well -- which means that I will be attempting a custom "fit" of sorts -- building a soffit wall that the console slides into. :shock:

basically you are doing what I did at Beyond Facilities mix room: It worked for me in that room - I spent years there :)
