I will probably place neoprene sheets inside them. The fit is quite tight and the neoprene should decouple, right?

As promised, pics of the studio works so far. Enjoy and please comment

I still have to hang the rear wall panels but the sound has changed, yes: flutter is all gone. The room is clear and crisp, without reverb but not deafening. VERY natural so far :) This is my perception using my voice, of course. Asap, I'll plug the speakers in to have some bass going!! Tomorrow I should have the last panels hung and the ceiling done for good. I'll begin the floor and finish some door bits. Hopefully I'll be installing the gear next week... can't wait...:yahoo:

Hello again,
I've been a busy bee, BUT I managed to almost finish everything. Did the last panels, floor, lights, etc...it's all done except for a few little details that I need to finish later because now I need to get mixing asap. Tomorrow I'm on tour until Sunday, but next week I hope to be able to put the gear I need, to mix two CDs for two good customers. After that I will finish the details, build the desk, etc...

I should probably measure the room before I do anything else, right? Every time I've measured, I'd take several measurements from several positions of the mic around the sweet spot. Any special directions/comments on that are very welcome, as usual :)

The studio looks awesome. I hope it sounds just as good when I try the speakers :)
Some photos of the studio as it is right now
All comments are welcome 8)
Cheers

oh no! you put chestnut flooring in! you'll have to start over!

yes, definitely get the speakers into the soffits and do some empty room measurements with REW (single speaker test each side, plus both speakers together, plus mic in approximate mix position and couch position) and post the data files so we can determine how the room is behaving.

:) you little devel....

Couple questions:

-Shall I put the couch in the room to measure with it?

Just to make sure I get it right from the start, you're saying:
1-I should place the mic in mix position
2-test each speaker separately
3-test both speakers together
4-Repeat with mic in couch position.
Is this correct?

Finally, should I test with the mic in one single mix and one single couch position, or should I test with the mic on several spots around the mix position and several spots around the couch?

I don't have REW, but I have Fuzzmeasure. I guess it's ok, right?
Cheers

Fuzzmeasure works. i think it can export in a format which i can use in REW. yes, using a decent omni mic and a boom stand put the mic vertical about head height at your approx mix position, same for the couch position. no furniture or bodies in the room if possible. real minimal so we can baseline the room response which is why the individual speakers, then both, and both positions where people are most likely to be listening. we can spot any major frequency issues and any reflections which are room based. then you'll repeat this with all the furniture, desk, video and free standing monitors etc so we can spot where the things in the room have changed it. if you have a set of console speakers (NS-10 etc) then you can repeat the final testing with those just to see how mad a choice it is to put them on your console sideways instead of vertical behind it :-) plus the floor and side racks etc will surprise you the first time you see how much stuff is flying around...

Next one is for John, and then I'll begin with each member of the forum....can't leave anyone out.....wouldn't be fair, right?
So, cheers mate!!!

I just found out there is a Mac version of REW, so I'll get it and use that instead :)
The mic I have is the mic that came with the IK Multimedia ARC System my brother bought some time ago. Is that mic ok, you reckon? I believe it's very similar to the Behringer ECM8000 (it looks exactly the same. I tried to find out but couldn't find a way)
Otherwise I could probably get hold/borrow/rent a diferent mic if you think it's worth a shot or necessary. Let me know what you think :)
