Re: Sonolink Studio Project
How can I manage to place the slats without visible screw/nail marks like here?

They're not just glued, are they?
Cheers

Re: Sonolink Studio Project
you toe nail or simply drill in and use finishing nails and some wood putty to mask. some folks use construction adhesive, and some use wood or metal pegs and holes drilled on the backside. it really depends on your skills as the last two require more work.

Re: Sonolink Studio Project
Thanks for the tips, Glenn. I think I'll go for "toenailing" screws through the top and bottom (slat width). I'll screw in a wooden guide first, on top of which I can place the slat, then drill some guiding holes for the screws to avoid cracks. I'll screw the top, then take the wooden guide out and screw the bottom.
I'll keep the sawdust of the boards to mix it with white glue to make the masking putty match the wood.
Sounds like a plan, huh?
I've been thinking about the front cloud (while stapling) and how to build it...the thing is I'm a bit worried about how solid/heavy that thing is going to be, considering it'll be almost 4 meters wide....any ideas?
Cheers

you could divide the cloud unit into several pieces and hang each one separately. leave some gaps between them (say 100-150mm) and you can then individual adjust the angles etc of each to handle reflections and add visual interest.

Why didn't I think about that ??? That's a really good idea!
Ok, back to Sketchup to fit the lights.
Thanks a lot, Glenn

Re: Sonolink Studio Project
Hello again,
I've been working hard at the studio this week and I begin to see the end of the tunnel
I've finished most of the fabric and I've cut and planed the wood for the soffits and slat walls.
Just to double check, I have to build the slat walls, from top to bottom like this:
100 mm slat
2,5 mm gap
50 mm slat
5 mm gap
25 mm slat
100 mm gap
repeat pattern
Please confirm this is correct...
Cheers

Re: Sonolink Studio Project
remember the slat resonator cavities need to be sealed to work correctly. you only want the air gaps to be the slots.

Re: Sonolink Studio Project
All the cavities are sealed. Only the slats are left to be placed. I will place the three slat walls before the soffits to make sure that everything except the slots is sealed.

Re: Sonolink Studio Project
Hello everybody,
Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to all you guys!!! May 2011 be good for all of us.
I have now finished all the woodwork of the slat walls and soffits....
I'll type that again, cos myself I still can't believe it. Here goes:
I HAVE NOW FINISHED ALL THE WOODWORK OF THE SLAT WALLS AND SOFFITS!!!!!!!! YEEEEEHA!!!!
I promise I'll upload pics in a couple days max. I have a couple questions (as usual, hehe)
1-Do I have to sand the wood so that all the slats are perfectly even, vertically speaking, or is it ok to have a couple millimeters up/down.
2-The soffits are made of 6-7 cm wide slats (obviously no slots between them) to create a surface. Same as above, does this surface need to be perfectly even or can I feel the different slats when I stroke the wood with my hand?
Cheers
