Great progress (b)Ro!

Let me also update on the windows in the wall that separates the CR and LR.
Added a trim, cloth to close the gap and a inner glass stop frame. All painted black.
Tomorrow, yeah!, the two pieces of laminated glass will be inserted. Have these panes laying around for half a year already, it's time to put'm where they belong. When that's done, the live room is officially sound proof!

Current job: stucco!
yes, we're just finishing of the walls and ceiling with some gypsumstucco work. After that we're gonna paint them. Exiting, it is all comming together now. When the finishing is done, it's time to add some mass to the floor, build accoustic corner absorbers and fixing the lights and wallconnectors. Some paint work here and there, a floorfinish and accoustic broadband aborbers on the walls and ceiling.

So, hope to finish the live room Q12013 prolly won't happen...

Not sure if we're gonna do magnetic seals yet. The automatic-closer pushes the door against the rubber seals. Will see/measure how this will end-up, isolation wise.

Stucco-work, done. Cleaned up the mess.

And the glass is set! Two pieces of laminated 6:2:6 glass 120x80cm. 30kg a pop. Sealed around the perimeter with kit/sealant. It's a sticky business

Great progress!

My door closer seals the door nice at the top, but poorly at the bottom
So I'm adding magnetic seals in hope for better results..

Does your door close perfectly from top to bottom? What kind of seals did you use?

Paint Job!

Man, I'm exited this week. First we finished the "shell", the rooms are seperated and closed. Then we did the first paint job on the walls and ceiling. Having the first layer of paint ready really makes the whole room come together! wow!

Here are two shots which don't share the same excitement as I currently experience, but it's a good indication of a job well done.

Next week second coat of paint and one wall will be completely yellow. Seriously After the paint dries we'll add another layer of mass to the floor to hold the finishing floor. But before the finish gets on, we'll be building low-end absorbers! yeah, really looking forward to making those Next time gadget, next time!

How has it worked out so far Ro, you feel comfortable with what you have achieved as far as isolation and the overall acoustics of the space?

Well, isolation wise... not sure. We've been building this without extra decoupling since it's a tiny space. Done as much as possible which means adding mass to the existing roof/ceiling, adding a second ceiling, added heavy walls in front of the brick-walls and make a double mass wall to separate live and studio area. It's all build on the same floor, so there's a big flanking path. the glass and doors at least are equal in mass compared to the walls. Rubber seals, sealant you name it.

One thing we noticed while building the darn thing; we hardly can't hear the rain outside. in the beginning it was obvious when it was raining, so no surprise when leaving the building. Lately when we're exiting and it rains, we didn't notice it inside. So there's at least some isolation Room to room isolation was not the main focus. There's 3 floors. Each floor has one live room. I will add some extra mass to the floor/ceiling, but, as I wrote, i won't be dealing with intra-room isolation all that much. As long as the outside world won't hear us playing at level 11, I'm happy.

I will do the test soon. Then we know!

Acoustically it's one big echo room, which rocks. Ofcourse I will handle that in the upcoming months.
