Glad I could help put things back in perspective a little - your analog stuff will amaze you once it's up and "dialed in" - good wire, gain staging, decks maintained, etc - to follow the KISS method you may want only a stand-alone CD burner in your system instead of ANY computer stuff - you'll know more as you get things going.

Acoustically, a few gobo's and pieces of absorbent here and there will straighten out things enough to make any space usable - sound PROOFing is another thing, but I've worked between that for several years. Beats having NOTHING for sure.

Hang in there; I know you'd be even more miserable if you WEREN'T trying to do this (How's THAT for encouragement??!?) -

My philosophy - there are two parts to any goal: The journey, and the destination. If you're not going to enjoy the journey, then forget the goal because the destination may change before you get there.

This is why I try to do, or at least plan, something I enjoy each and every day. If I make the mistake of telling myself "When I get THIS, I'll be happy", then I'm SCREWED DOUBLE - first, I may not EVER get it, and second, it may not be "as advertised" -

If my method works for you, by all means feel free to use it as is or "modify" it to your own benefit.

Now, get off yer ass and go do ANY little thing that makes you happy... Steve

Awright, so here's a little test - which end of the "Gweeter" goes in yer mouth, and which notes can be played with either valve 3 or valve 1 and 2? No, wait - which end goes under your chin, and... damn, it HAS been awhile...

BTW, Santana was FREAKIN' AWESOME !!!?! - 2 hours 45 minutes nonstop, just a little too loud for no earplugs (wore 'em for about 2:25 of the 2:45) SPL's ran from 105-110 dB C weighted. Only the second concert I've EVER been to that I would have mixed virtually the same as I heard it - the other was a freebie outdoor concert locally, with Dan Siegel (jazz keyboardist originally from Portland, now out of L.A.) Yeah, I know, outdoors, cheating on acoustics - still, that one I could have put an XY pair up over the board (we sat next to it) and made a commercial CD without mastering (other than a bit more compression if it was going to be a commercial release)

Anyway, Carlos doesn't surround himself with slouches - not so much as a fluffed note the entire night. I was even favorably impressed with the acoustics - probably partly because we were far enough away from any boundaries not to get any discernible early reflections, and partly because it was a sold out house.

Might be offline for a day or so, trying to configure a new firewall/router and it's bein' a bitch - hope yer jam's a blast... Steve
