Hopefully only 3 weeks away from the build.
Then now would be a good time to post your complete design! 3 weeks isn't much time to have it checked over, and maybe make any changes that might be needed...
Quick questions,
Before the inner leaf is built, could someone recommend an easy way to seal the internal side of the existing brick wall. Don't fancy rendering, perhaps some masonry paint
Any good quality masonry sealant will do the job. Quick search on Google produces this:

Thanks Stuart,
So here's the plan below - though walls will be straight to save time in construction at the expense of a little space. Budget is an issue as baby on the way, so i've had to simplify. I doubt i'll be recording drums.
Document 2 jpeg.jpg
Walls
Inner leaf : Bolted to the existing concrete floor. 100mm insulation slabs, 1x15mm sound bloc. if budget wasn't tight i'dd add two layers, though i think the mass of the brick outer lead makes up for this.
Loads of acoustic caulk .
Any advise on sealing up existing garage doors appreciated (still want it to look like a garage from outside)
Should I add resilient channels?
Ceiling
Semi-independent , extra support via isolation hangers attached to existing ceiling. Ceiling span tables don't account for this extra support. I want to conserve as much ceiling space as possible. the orientation of the room will not allow for joists in-between existing ceiling joists. - i guess the max span would be around 3.5m likely at 400mm centres - whats the small joist i can get away with for 1 layer of 11mm OSB 2 board and 1x15mm sound bloc?
Will add insulation to existing ceiling.
Could anyone advise me on joist size with this added support?
Floor
Nothing special here just insulation , electric underfloor heating and laminate.
Ventilation
Building regulations guy specified both vocal room (really just for storage) and main room should link to one inline extractor fan, which should be the MANROSE MF100T - lowest setting is just 20db. This will feeding into baffle box before exiting.
For passive ventilation intake will use the below item which promises up to 50db isolation - i assume this is better than just using a baffle box and flexible ducting?

If you guys feels I've missed something please let me know!

Really at a cross roads here,
independent structure with better isolation
vs
extra 25cm of ceiling height,
the joists to span the main room according to council approved span tables are 47x195mm @ 400mm for 0.25kn/m2 that would bring down the height of the room to around 2.2m !! that seems really low,
the latter would also need sway braces reducing my isolation further.
No idea....

Hi Azurr
I'd go with the separate structure - you could do all the other work and then realise that your ceiling is the weakest link. I'd say get it done now, built inside out to maximise ceiling height, and just ensure the ratios of the other two dimensions work OK around your ceiling height.
I have just build a new front wall to my studio room, which has made a massive difference, and in doing that it's further pronounced how poor the ceiling is....
Good luck!

Thanks, deep down I knew the answer but couldn't realise it,
Read through you're thread - how's the music going? Derbyshire not too far from me!

Hey Azurr
I'm so nearly there with my studio (for now) that I might be able to get back to doing some music!! Just doing some final tweaks...
I'd love a two room space like yours - that's what my next one will be - purpose built building in the garden with any luck, but for now and for this house I'm really happy with what I've achieved. Everything takes that bit longer than you think though... I'm two months in of doing stuff most evenings and weekends, as well as about five days off work...!
Is Oundle somewhere near Peterborough?
Cheers

I'll look forward to the months of tweaking I guess! Yeah near peterborough , the only stipulation i had when buying the house was that it had a double garage so i could make the studio. In reality the vocal room with just be for storage or to look more professional - dimension wise I doubt it will sound any good.
Just over a week left!! Feeling the pressure .

My next house will definitely be a double garage conversion, or with space to build that kind of structure.
I would definitely support all the positive comments on here about soffit mounting - my Mackie monitors have never sounded as open with such stable stereo imaging as they do now they're soffit mounted.
Good luck with your design!
