BUT, are you willing to "waste" that precious space. That's mostly the most important question. If you can; DO IT! If not, don't build the soffit inside your inner layer.
All I'm saying is that, if we are going to build a CR's front wall from scratch using double frames, instead of building it and then constructing the soffit "add-on" (which will occupy space anyway), we could intergrate John's or Barefoot's soffit mounting design to the inner wall, wasting no more space than the space for the add-on requiered.

The big question is that, eventually, are we going to benefit from going this risky way (I say risky because the add-on is the obvious safe way to do it, if it doesn't work, well, you remove it, change it and put it back, try to do that with the inner wall...)? Is it gonna be as effective or more as the add-on? Is it going to be less time-consuming to build? Is it going to be less expensive to build? We will never know, unless someone is willing to take that risk... :(

Good questions which I, frankly, can't answer since I have only done "add-on" soffits so far.

Perhaps John (Sayers) could/would share some info on his builds. I'm sure he has done different "versions". 8)

Maybe I should copy or move the topic to the Construction forum... :?

It's more crowded there...

Hmmm... I don't know... Is it more like a design question or a construction question? :?

I always thought that the line between them is very thin...

I guess we could start from design...

all begins with a plan; the design of your studio.

EVERY little detail needs to be addresses before you even start to hit a nail.
