I have been learning a lot from the info posted here. I have found LOTS of practical information. Thanks. In fact, the "primitive raytracing" picture has been the first resource on designing my own RFZ from scratch.

The existing pillars and the existing stair to the basement have been a tough obstacle when designing the layout, but I managed to create a control room big enough to work comfortably (I hope) and even accomodate some students (the studio will double as a practice center for a sound recording school, max. 4-5 students at a time)

I would appreciate your advice, specially on the layout and design (primitive, I know) :wink: of the RFZ.

Should the splaying walls include additional slat resonators, or would diafragmatic absorbers be a better idea? What is the best way to distribute absorption in this control room?

I have also planned to install some difussers at the back, given that there is enough distance to allow a reflection time of 26 ms. at the mixing position.

That's looking good mate.

A couple of things- firstly the main speakers should be at 30 degrees, not the 45 you've drawn and yes you can make the side splays slots.

The bathroom doesn't resolve properly IMO - the door/passage into the office is way too small ;)

I have modified the floorplan (as you can see, there is an updated picture now) to include a 60º angle for the big monitors... and I didn't know where to put the genelec 1031's so I put them provisionally also in a soffit position. :roll:

The access to the office was not well drawn, in fact three of the walls surrounding the stairs are only 1 meter high (less than 3 feet, in fact), so it doesn't look so narrow once you are there... We expect not having to stay much time there... :wink: or we will have to build a bigger office at the basement.

I will check if the modal resonances stay more or less distributed as they were before, considering the width of the walls.

Also, I haven't got a clue about the elevation plan.

The floor plan (layout, modal distribution, RFZ, etc...) is almost ready so now my biggest concern will be how to distribute adequately absorption. I'm considering the following types:
1) Porous absorption (hanging panels). I'll have to search how they are built, placed and hung.
2) Helmoltz resonators. Slat Absorbers look a good idea since they are cheap to build and design, furthermore, they can be integrated into the side splays as you kindly approve :)
3) 1/4 wavelength cavities
4) Diaphragmatic absorbers. I built some corner traps as explained by Everest and effect was good, but not enough to tame all modal problems... this time I would like to get it right at the first time :x

:?: :?: :?: In fact, I must admit I have ZERO practical info on how and where place absorption... but I'm confident that further search in the archives will bring me some light.
