Sourced best value building materials in Ireland

Hi everyone,
I have spend many months here in ireland trying to sourse different materials for my studio build. Can somebody confirm that these resilient channels are the correct type for acoustic applications...

For anyone trying to sourse materials in ireland Chadwicks stock these channels and they are called resilient bars, RB-1. they do a version RB-2 for ceiling installation so as to support heavier loads. They are made by gyproc and retail at €4.27 per 3 meter lenght.

gyproc also do a sound sealent stocked by Chadwicks. Standard plasterboard 12mm retails for €8.80 per 8 4 sheet @ Chadwicks.

Hi Hally and All, indeed materials are very hard to find here in Ireland. Here are a couple of gems.
Brooks sealant/caulk- the expensive multipurpose one stays rubbery, doesn't crack. Works underwater! I am sure some of the cheaper ones would work fine too.
Engineering firms stock Neoprene. DOH! In Cork that would be Brownlows.
Caulk Rod or Caulk Saver http://www.sdg.ie/sdg---expansion-cord

I believe that Gyp RC should be fine, note the two different types for wall and ceiling.

thanks dan, i priced the expensive stuff in brooks and its €15 a pop, thats one expensive sealent, I am going to do some testing on a similar product found in B & Q but for much less cash... let u know the results....

Hey Guys ..... Why not purchase from CSR/Bradford here in Australia, they will have everything you need alongside a 100 page PDF file on building Single/Double/Triple Leaf Wall systems and underground dwellings with RC Channelling ....! 500 ways to do it!

More So ...... as we here "Kin Folk only do Coal, Uranium, Iron Oar and Copper you'll find the $AUD at .60/65 cents = 1$ AUD a steal. Not only to purchase though also to ship into Ireland.

Also wanted to say fair play for this thread, i am starting a build in the next few weeks in galway,
I been trying to price bits and peices for a while and getting stressed at the laxy daisy attitudes builders and suppliers have here. what a joke "typically irish yeh"

Tennants on the Ravenhill Road in Belfast were able to supply us with RS60 Rocksilk (51mm, 60kg/m3). 1200 x 600mm sheet in packs of 9 for a total area of 6.48m2 per pack. The packs were £32.98.

I've having more trouble finding something to cover our broadband absorbers with. After phoning around half a dozen fabric suppliers in Belfast we've come up empty handed. We even tried Maplin and Eclipse for speaker cloth, but to no avail.

Thanks for the info Padhraig, in the the south the best place for all ur insulation needs and unbeatable prices is irishinsulations.ie, they are right next door to gysum in Dublin and can sell palsterboard @ very near cost price, I ordered a load of different insulation and 120 slabs of 1/2" plasterboard delivered to my doorstep.the slabs worked out @ €6.20 a sheet...

Are u using the RS60 Rocksilk for your broadband absorbers or some other application..I haven't got around to trying to sourse acoustically transparent material/ cloth yet but I was going to try a wholesale place in Dublin who's name eludes me right now, they are quite close to parnell square, if i think of it i'll let u know...

Hey Hally,

Yeah we're using them for absorbers. Following the guide that studio_drums put up in the Acoustics forum (I think it's stickied near the top) although he uses 703. I think we're probably going to end up ordering our cover material online although if you do find a source in Ireland, please let us know. It'd be an excuse to get down to Dublin to visit a friend of ours in Blackrock.

As far as fabric goes, Hickeys have a wholeslae outlet in parkgate st dublin, near the bridge over to heuston station.
They have an absolutly fecking immense selection of types and colors of fabrics there at very cheap prices.
I am sure if you dropped by you would find what you need there, although they probably wouldnt know much about accoustic quality of products they will have it instock for sure.

Great stuff lads!!! For my broadband absorbers I just used curtain lining, tight weave but still breathable. Not sure about its fire rating but it does burn slow, I'd treat it or get something with known properties if its going to be used somewhere commercial.

I do a bit of decorating work at the oul festivals around the place during sumer,
Have become quite adepth at fireproofing fabrics.
For this job the only product to use as far as i am concerned is Flame Check.
If you google Flame Check Malta you will find it.
Supplied in ireland by Blacklight lighting rentals Galway.
Google either and you will find it quite simply.
It really does work.

Anyone find any nice fabrics in Ireland for covering broadband absorbers, bass traps etc.

TWI fabrics on Mountjoy Square, Dublin, if they don't have it, then it doesn't exist...They are a wholesale outfit so maybe say ur in the trade, When i deal with them I said I was a fashion student and needed some cheap fabric....

Some more Irish Suppliers

Murphy and Sheehy Dublin for Hessian and many other fabrics.

http://www.fontington.ie for Camira fabric. Similar to Guilford of Maine.

O' Keefe Insulation Cork 021 4311327

Ask for Christy O' Keefe. Tell him Dan from Irish Acoustics sent ya.

Christy has 100KG RockWool which he can cut into any size and even shape.
He can attach FRK. He also has Isover High Performance Duct Cladding batts. These are Fibreglass with FRK on, equivalent approximately to 703.

Paddy Downer 086-8280122 has those very hard to find Fabric Stretching tracks. This is how the Pro studios cover their walls/treatments.
