Can't attach any panels to the walls,so...

Post by A320guy »

I rent and can't really be driving dozens of nails into the walls. However I do wish to utilize Bass trap panels suggested by ETHAN WINER per his web article, staggering the low bass, mid bass and hi freq panels along all of the the walls. My question is this: If I CAN'T attach the 703 and 705 FRK panels on wood strips directly to the room wallboards and enclose them with various plywood enclosures, CAN I CONSTRUCT PANELS FULLY AND INDEPENDENTLY ENCLOSED WITH PLYWOOD ON THE FRONT AND REAR-SEALED AIRTIGHT AND THEN LEAN THEM UP AGAINST THE WALLS? The room is 10W X 13L X 7.5-9.5 ft. Sloped ceiling. I plan to completely cover the ceiling with 4 inch 705 suspended with a slight airgap. THe floors are bare wood. Anyones help would be much appreciated!

Absolutely no problem building free-standing traps - just keep them as close to the walls as possible, since panel type traps work by being at maximum sound PRESSURE, not VELOCITY - Also, here are some other ideas for "Porta-Coustics" -

Hope that helps... Steve
