sliding doors DIY question

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

As simple as a door looks, it is actually a fairly complex little mechanism.

If its not PERFECTLY square, and plumb, it won't function properly. Unless you have access to a joinery shop and considerable joinery skills, I'd hesitate trying to build even a solid wooden door. Add to that glass, runners on top and bottom, and a track for it to all run on, and I think you're out of the realm of ANY DIY'er.

Now, what you CAN do is buy a solid core "blank", a pre-made pocket door frame, tracks and runners, and put it all together, but that's a solid core pocket door; not sure if thats what you're after.
