string mic recommendations?

Get your "what mic?" frustration or "have you heard" out here. The language could get real okka in here mate.

string mic recommendations?

Post by sandledfoot »

hey all,

so, whom of you out there would or could make a mic recommendation for strings (violin, viola, etc)... to be used in both sound reinforcement and recording (it's a stretch... but without money...) in all i'm considering I have to mic 7 strings  , and I currently only have (2) nt5s and (2) nt2a, which i plan on using a close micing technique.... the strings are in a pit, next to the kit (w/ drum shield)

i will be needing at least two mics... budget is trying to stay between 400-800(each)... obviously, cheaper is better, but want some level of professional quality! so, i've been thinking of trying to 1 or 2 really nice ones, and 2 cheaper ones (like maybe an AT 3030)....

so far i've been looking at a neuman 184
and senn e914, maybe earthworks SR20, ???

any suggestions???

I've read good raves about the Studio projects B1 condensor - they are cheap yet appear to be very good value.

cheers
