Wood Floors, small room and Foam

Post by vandergraf »

Hi all,

I have a small room (9' x 12') with wood floors and a popcorn ceiling.
It has a 47"x47" window that I am going to build a "foam plug" for (Basically a big 47"x47" foam piece with Auralex foam mounted to it).

Since my room is too small to do LEDE, (with regard to the Auralex plaecment) what can I do so that I get the best sound when tracking in the room (vocals & acoustic guitar), as well as, mixing? Is it possable to retain some of the room's liveness?

Note the Gobo in the diagram. I am planning on building this so it will fold-up, and can be used to create a small area for tracking vocals and acoustic guitar. Should I cover the entire corner/wall areas with Auralex?

Here is a crude diagram:

Thank you for any suggestions.

I'd leave the floor reflective and treat most of the walls and ceiling. Then you won't even need a folding screen.

Thanks for replying Ethan!

Also, I was going to use a tapestry rug on the floor. Good idea? Or just treat the walls/ceiling as you said, and leave the floor bare?

Thanks again

Why not try it both ways and see which you prefer. :)

Thanks, it's kind of a mix and match deal.
The middle desk is made by Omnirax, and the two side racks are from Raxxess. Both are available from Musicians Friend, online.

Yes. Huge difference, since the room is essentially a box (12'x9').
