What do you think about this layout?
Here is my design,The solid black lines are existing walls that are already there. The dotted black lines are the walls I plan on putting up.The ceilings are pretty high I guess about 9 or 10 ft. The Walls are all Sheetrock except the bottom half of the 22 ft wall and the 7 ft wall(Concrete blocks).Door 1(interior door) comes into the room from the inside of my house.Door 2 I will put there when I build the wall there.Door 3(Exterior door) comes in from the outside. Door 4 I will put there when I build that booth.Room 1 is engineering room and room 2 is recording room,Room 3 is booth for vocals and guitar amps and anything else small. There will be a window(pink solid line) in the new wall I build, the black arrow points it out.Does this design look effecient? Will it make for a good recording studio? What kind of doors should I get? Also You may notice I put a wall around the exterior door 3.I did this to block out sound from the outside.Would this be a good idea or a waste of time? Thanks in advance!

I like this a lot it looks like it would work real well.I forgot to mention one thing that I could probably work out some way with this.My band also will practice in this room.Does anyone ever practice with the headphones on instead of everybody playing together loud?I have a four piece band,1-Singer,guitar:1-guitar:1-bass:1-drummer.

Here, rehearsing with phones
Hi Optymusblu,
my band (singer, 2 guitarists, bass, drums) is currently rehearsing using phones.
Here's what to look out for:
- set up mics for anyone, so you can talk to each other
- it's better if you can supply different mixes

I find that people with setup tend to hang in the control room except the drummer who has cans. The guitar amps are miked up in the booth 1 and the singer is in the control room with the others with his mike coming through the monitors.- you can also hit record and play it backDoes anyone ever practice with the headphones on instead of everybody playing together loud?

cheers

Putting the band on phones is a great idea if you ask me..
Heck Just this Satirday I did a live recording where the client had me put the entire band on phones.
Their timing was pretty good from what I could tell and the band overall seemed quite satisifed save for the one person who just refused to use the headphones properly. So she struggled during the show.

It's soffit mounting - go to the SAE siteso the two triangles where the monitors are
http://www.saecollege.de/reference_material/index.html
and click on the index and look up soffit mounting. Also do a search on this site and you'll find there is heaps of info on it.
cheers

Ok I read up a little on soffit mounting.I have event tr8 monitors,How will I mount them into this? Will I have to take the monitor box apart or what?Another question I had is,My room used to be a garage now it is all sheetrocked in,so my question is Will I have to add anything to these walls or will they stay the same and I just build over them?I noticed booth 2 has lines in the floor is this hardwood?Should the other booth be carpet or vinyl or anything else?

Cost is dependant. If you are building yourself, not that expensive, if you are hiring others, the figures run up quick.
So which way are you going.
Search out the forums for the various materials.
And then we can assist you better.

Just to toss out a figure. DIY this would probably run between 5k and 10k, depending on materials and the like.
Not sure of prices in the ATL
