Am I doing good?

Hi everyone.
After tweaking around with a great suggested design from Mr. Sayers;

I would like to ask a few questions concerning the way I applied the acoustic treatment to the design and future control room:

1) Do all slot resonators have to be 8 inches deep? or will they sufer any effect if reduced to 4 inches?
2) Is it ok to angle the sides of my 8 inch deep rear wall absorber?
3) Is the room acostic treatment corectly placed?

There is an excel calculator in the "stickies" in this forum - depth is one of the parameters. Changing that changes the center frequency.

However, if you mean "can I make the angled-face side absorbers less deep", you should NOT - these should, first of all, be at least 4 feet wide PER UNIT so you don't get more of an "averaging" effect and less reduction of flutter echo as a result, and secondly (since one of their main uses is to kill flutter, besides the purpose of redirecting early reflections away from the mix area) they should have no less than 1 in 10 splay, more if possible. This means that a 48" wide unit should have MINIMUM of 4.8" DIFFERENCE in depth from one side to the other, preferably more.

2) Is it ok to angle the sides of my 8 inch deep rear wall absorber?

Your door placement makes it a problem NOT to angle the sides; however, be aware that corners are where you need MORE depth in a broadband trap, not less; in the case of this room, you will likely find that you need to place wall-ceiling absorbent across those corners to help compensate for the lack of having the two rear VERTICAL corners trapped.

3) Is the room acostic treatment corectly placed?

Basically, yes; however, I'm curious about your horizontal speaker placement in the soffits - can you post more details? Speaker type, maybe a link, ceiling height and height to center of woofer, height to center of tweeter, etc... Steve

Hi Steve, Thanks for your response.

The speakers displayed on the design are just a nice add on that John placed to give me an idea of how would it look. My speakers are Mackie HR824 but they will be standing vertically and the ceiling height of the room is 8 feet high.

Better acoustically, if you fill those corners with MW batts; but it won't work for very long; either you won't be able to get in to use it, or you won't be able to get out and will starve

Do you have a post in the design forum with your actual sizes of the building and each room? I am currently planning a studio, and i like your new layout. If you do have a deminsions elswhere, can i see a link? And if you dont, can i see deminsions?

Can you also, besides dimensions, show what's already built and what's planned? For one thing, it seems like you may be wasting a lot of usable floor space (and acoustic volume) - also, your live room looks dangerously close to a cube... Steve

knightfly: ...Hi...well one room is already built (this is an existing bedroom 11' 10" wide X 13' 6" long)
but the biggest room is planed to be constructed. This room will be 17' wide x 14' Long and will have a small extended room to the side about 8' long x 4' 8" wide.
