RFI in Low Z Snake

Post by Barron »

Hi, I have a small project studio in which I have run 8 channels of Neglex Quad cable from switchcraft wallplates terminating in neutrik connections. The runs are are about 16 feet in total length each. Unfortunately Im getting low level Tejano (its Texas afterall) on my monitors and mic pres. After some initial testing, it is not an AC problem (everthing is on MP Pro 3500's), but rather RFI through my cables. I have tested both premade and homemade cables with the exact same results. Additionally, I lose the interference the moment I disconnect cables from my pre's or monitors.

Will an RFI reducer like the Shure A15RF help my situation??
Are there other options besides a faraday cage?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
It's got a 'Talent Knob'...and it goes to 11!

Friend of mine was just sharing something that help a similar situation in a church a few years ago; bundle all the cables, then wrap with aluminum foil (overlap just like Beldfoil in a cable, only spiral), then follow that wrap with bare wire spiral and ground the wire at ONE POINT ONLY.

Since RFI is sometimes more voodoo than verifiable, YMMV - but for my friend it reduced the radio station enough to not be objectionable in a live room (not claiming it'll ELIMINATE it, just passing this along) - Prior, the station was enough to let people listen to the music without much strain...
