Hi all!,
Im looking for a good mixer. max-2000$. so it can't be one of those fansy consoles ive seen. Analog preferable
ok my other question is that if i get an analog mixer.. how could i connect it to my computer for recording?
If i get one that is powered, do i need active monitors/speakers?
I really want this to be used for recording mainly, then as a PA when we gig if i decide to get a built in PA.
thanks for any help/suggestions.
Mike

When compared to what?? A board 2 times the price???
8-Buss is built like a tank. There are plenty that have been in service over 10 yeasr with no issues beside the old talk back button needing replacement.
People have toured with them (small rigs) and they are still crnaking away 7 -8 years later....

This is really the wrong forum for this......
In your range of $2000 console for recording and live, there really arent a whole lot to pick from.
The mackie is a good solid buy. Is it the best?? No, but in that price range there really isnt a ton of stuff out there to choose from.
The sound quality is decent. Many an album was cut and mixed on a mackie and sold a ton of copies.... Gear is gear (good or bad), your ability will exploit it to it's max, or degrade it to it's max.....
Used between 1350 and 2 grand. use a mic and headphones to verify the input channels. pass signal through all the busses and sends.... check the main outs verify the monitor outs, etc.....
Floor monitors is a budget and taste issue.
I prefer EAW SM200's for a vocal wedge and sm400's for instruments, they cost about 2K a pc on up .
Your budget might say Yamaha SM112 or Sm115 (250-300 each)
SO figure out what you wanna spend in total and take it from that perspective....

[quote="slash81291"]what kind of PA or what woul dyou recomend to go with this.?quote]
If Bryan is talking about a digital 8 bus (Mackie D8B), it's really a digital recording mixer (this is a studio forum after all) and not really geared for live music (altough I have heard of folks using them for FOH use).
I have a D8B with a Mackie HRD24/96 recorder that I track with. I paid about $3K for the whole thing used with the latest operating system, etc. I love it. Be warned, however, Mackie has discontinued this model.
Before you buy one check out the D8B forum on the Mackie web site ( http://www.mackie.com ) . I believe it is recording's equivelant to this forum as far as having a bunch of great intelligent folks helping others with intelligent questions. Not much wasting of time there!
