Multicore for everything?

Post by Toerag »

Hi
I am about to start work on construction and I have a question on the audio wiring.

I will have a control room and a live room. The live room will have 2 or 3 wall boxes for xlr/line and headphone feeds.
Is it normal procedure to run everything (xlr/line/headphones) all on a massive multi core?
I only ask because otherwise I will have to buy a lot more cable, multicore for xlr, another for lines, another for headphones.

And how many channels can you get multicore in?
I was hoping for 32 audio channel + 10 headphones.

Tips appreciated

No.

Line level, mic level is fine. If you are running amplifield headphone sends, separate them from your mic/line level lines. Otherwise you'll have the potential for crosstalk/bleedthrough.

Depends on the Mfg. Mogami you can get in 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 24, (32 or 36 can't remember), and 48.

Ok, thanks for the replies.

So you are saying line and xlr with/without phantom is ok but run the headphones on a different multicore?

Ok, I am now thinking (to save costs) of running unamplified headphones sends on the same multicore as the xlr/lines but have the headphone amp at the stage box/user end so they can control their own level.

What do other people do? Is this a sensible way to go?

I have a small multichannel headphone amp in every room.
You can get workable ones relatively cheap ($100-125 USD).
