Allround monitor for media compagny

I'm working at a radio/tv station and our
technicians asked me for a allround monitor
to replace NS10's.

They do a lot of installations and need a
replacement. It'll be used in broadcast studios,
video edit's, radio production studios ect.
In this situation it's nice to have one speaker
all over.

It has to be passive and in the same price range
as ns10.. what was that btw. Is something like
300$ correct ?

Where should we be looking

Too bad it has to be passive.

Event makes a nice 5" active (about the size of your NS-10)
Event Tuned Reference 5

It sells at sweetwater for $149.97 Each or $300/pr it's in your price range the only change for you would be running a signal line to the cabinet.

the event 20/20 passive is a nice easy speaker to work long hours with - it has a decent low end for it's size but it's bigger than a NS10.

We would have something like 30-40 spare amps
going active. Passive should give us more speaker
at the same price.

Problem is active is so big

Passive under 300$
Kinda funny this would be a problem

I understand managing your cost and not wasting those amps. However (not to convince but to inform) the actives I am talking about are very small.

5" Driver, etc.... Not too deep, etc...

I was trying to find/research aq small passive for that price, KRK is a good company to look into. I am not sure of the price however.

Looks like a small company building relatively high quality speakers and selling them at a reduced price. The drivers are significantly better than the ones used in the Event TR5 and the specs look excellent. The low end doesn't reach down terribly far, since it's a sealed box. But the bass should be tight and the extension is definitely comparable to an NS10 - though much more accurate.

Need a hand getting rid of one of those NS-10's, let me know. I am looking for a pair in good condition. Most TV production houses keep their gear well maintained

Well... Before they were discontinued the pricetag
here was approx 285$ Now I'm beginning to see
them used for as much as 675 $
I believe they are sold to wanna bee's with all the
wrong motives. "you can't be a pro without these,
all serious people have these, they sound soooo good"

It's not like we are going to lay them all off, but
as a replacement for broken ns10's and new
studios.

It's a crazy world out there.

Oh Well, I wuz hopin'.

I'd like a pair just to compare my mix from my mackies to my auratones, to some nice NS-10's

Nice to know what the mix will sound like on crap. LOL

Yeah, most folks don't realize that they have a Upper Mid boost for vocal intelligability and they try to do a mix without that in mind. I prefer various references just to see how I am translating.

Personal Opinion, not necessarily equating to the views of management:

Ever seen ANY picture of a Pro facility EVER printed in Mix mag that DIDN'T show a pair of NS-10's sitting on the bridge? My own personal opinion is that these were initially used by someone as a "step up" for auratones and caught on, partially because the white cones looked different, and became a (sub) standard. Personally, I've only listened to NS-10's twice and both times couldn't WAIT to get away from them. People who swear by them claim that they reveal all the "warts" in midrange (which, I agree is important) but they also say that they have to "watch the cones" to tell if the bass is right, yada yada...

My own (only) reasons for wanting a pair, after years of running from them, is so that people who "can't live without 'em" won't leave my facility before finding out how truly freakin' WONDERFUL I am :=) (Oh, did I forget "modest" ???)

I tend to agree with the typical comments that "anything that sounds good on NS-10's will sound GREAT on REAL speakers... Steve

Right on Steve, that is my main reason for wanting them.

My Mackies have been spoiling me since 1997.

The only other cabinet I WANT is the K&H O300

Other than that, Heck they look cute (ns-10's)

My Auratones are my replacement for Auratones. LOL
