wiring suggestion needed : Fireface 800-mixer-monitors

Hi everybody,

I've made the big purchase for my home studio and now I need to wire it all up...
I have Fireface 800 as the recording unit. now, the ff800 doesn't have dedicated direct for Monitors-out so I am wondering how do I do thru monitoring via the mixer. since the ff800 has mic preamps built-in, how do I send a signal also directly to the mixer (all this to overcome latency).

also - in general - what's the best monitoring method for the monitors and multiple earphones (in relevance to ff800 or not, mixer methods etc) ?

By the way, the mixer I have is a behringer UB1222FX-PRO.

This may be a better topic for www.recording.org but here's my first question.

Have you read the manuals first for both the FF800 and your behringer?

Usually they have diagrams how to wire it up. I'm not familiar w/ the FF800, nor do I have time to research it (you'll have to read the manual for the software configs).

If you have some diagrams of the equipment w/ connections, etc. I may be able help you in the right direction, but the question is mighty vague. The more detail, the better I can help.

I am reading the manuals of course... but I am still curious of experienced technicians' point of view... and not necessarily ff800 users.

bottom line of my question is actually - does sending a pre-mixed stereo signal to the mixer and then to the monitors (& phones) give a minimum latency or I should send it directly to monitoring (not through mixer) ?

AND in both cases - should I use any Two selected outs as my direct-to-monitoring ?

in any case, thanks again. I'm waiting for a firewire card to arrive... until then I'll check many speculations...

With any host based computer DAW system, there usually is some latency. But this depends on numerous factors. It depends on your computer, the cards, I/O Hardware, software program and how it's programmed to work w/ the hardware, any external gear such as mixers or consoles, and in what configuration it's all connected. Some systems have a low latency mode (software config), however, there usually is still some latency (milliseconds).
