Is This The Right Stuff? (703)

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Is This The Right Stuff? (703)

Post by higgs »

I have found a place that is my one and only hope of getting any 703 locally. I e-mailed them this question:

"You were mentioned as a possible source for Owens Corning 703 (3 pcf) and 705 FRK (6 pcf).
Do you carry these materials"

Their reply was:

"I WOULD NEED TO KNOW THICKNESS OF INSULATION. DO YOU WANT A FOIL BACKING? I STOCK 703 BD. 1,11/2,AND 2'' WITH A FSK OR ASJ BACKING"

Sorry for the very remedial question, but (for putting in corners as bass trapping) is this the correct stuff?

Thanks! :)

The preferred is "unfaced".

Just plain 703.

What does the BD stand for? That is my main concern because I have never heard it called that before.

Thanks again!

BD is just an abbreviation for "board" in this case - this stuff is often referred to as insulation board because it's so much stiffer than the normal house type batts... Steve
