what about this material for walls isolation?

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

what about this material for walls isolation?

Post by hugo_inside »

I found this kind of isolation material in my city in Spain:

http://www.knauf.es/opencms/opencms/Kna ... e1&nivel=3

the third on this page is what i'm talking about: "placa woolplac" I traslate it: " Standar Plac (gypsium) wich is pasted to a wool rock ply of 90kg/m3 of density.

Is that what I need to isolate my recording room?

Hugo, this might work OK for a single layer wall, because the insulation material would be attached to the inside of the gypsum which would damp any vibrations. But it would not be practical to use this material for multi-layer walls (needed for sound proofing) because the insulation would get in the way of having the other wall layers in close contact with other layers; if you allow air spaces between these layers, your wall will not be as good for sound stopping.

If you can find just the plain gypsum wallboard, it will be much easier to make walls with extra layers.

One resource you may find more useful is the USG construction handbook - it's available in Spanish also. You should right-click on the following link and choose "Save Target As", and then save the entire manual to your hard drive.

I hope this helps... Steve
