Alternative Sound Proofing

Post by R3cor »

Has anyone tried to use an insulation floor soundproofing deadening cell foam used for cars and trucks to cover a small room? I found truck bedliners and cell foam for the flooring as I've been looking at 4WheelOnline and other stores. Will this work as an alternative?

soundproof is a myth. nothing is truly soundproof. that said, dampening resonances such as the truck products (and there are many products out there including marine coatings which damp fiberglass and metal pretty well), but ultimately will not give you the level of isolation you're looking for. mass and neutralization (attenuation) are the key to achieving high levels of isolation. the less sound hitting the boundary, then less the energy is retransmitted on the other side. the more significant the mass (and by itself this also requires spacing of the mass layers, damping of the layers, and attenuation in the inter-mass space) the less energy is retransmitted.

significant sound isolation for a normal vehicle is not likely.
