ROOM ADVICE 4 SMALL, ASYMMETRIC MIXING ROOM (FREQ RESPONSE)

Post by eazyly »

I have this room I use for production, recording, mixing, and mastering. I would like to treat it further for monitoring before Sonarworks Reference 4 Calibration.
Location, Arcadia Los Angeles CA, USA - also in profile.

Attached I have made a crude room sketch, detailing the many inopportune details of the room.

Ceiling 8'
Ceiling crown molding 4.5"x 4.5"

1. Sliding mirror closet on right
2. Window on left
3. TV mounted on top wall
4. A/C in top right corner
5. Ceiling fan 32" from TV wall. 34" from couch wall

4' x 2' x 3.5 panel in the back left corner wall, and an additional one i have not hung yet. Unknown material inside. (2)

13.5" x 24" x 4" diffusers (6)

1. I know I need more absorption panels, but I was conflicted with where to put them with all the asymmetry.
2. My first reflection areas have a window and a closet with a sliding mirror door that juts out the wall.
3. My rear wall is about 5 feet away from me, do I not need to put my diffusors on my rear wall then?
4. I see a 2' x 4' x 5" & 2' x 7' x 5" roxul panels for 200$ should I purchase this for my 3rd corner and rear wall?

There is a case to be made for facing the West Wall. I would test the LF response in both orientations. You may get a clear answer.
Treatment is pretty much the same for any rectangular space. Cloud, Corner Traps, Deep Back Wall trapping, Side Reflection killers.
I don't see much point to small areas of diffusion.
