Attaching drywall between joists

I'm in full agreement with Paul. There's nothing wrong with screwing up through the subfloor. I didn't do this because I plan on installing hardwood on the floor above and had this fear of hitting screws with nails. I believe that screwing into the subfloor would have been faster and has the added benefit of being able to overlap the joints as Paul said.

I have followed Paul's studio build diary and am confident that if he says not to be anal, then don't be. If his studio doesn't have good isolation, there's no hope for any of us.

Is this something you would do in addition to a 'floating ceiling' either suspended by the walls or hung from joists by isolation channels strips? In my case, the full build-out of my basement into a studio will be several years long. But I am hoping to make improvements right off the bat by doing this method between joists to get better dampening ASAP.

I'm wondering if I'll still have proper proper room for insulation on the inner side of the floating wall.
