Any use for this Glass Wool Insulation

Post by tardishead »

I have found a source of incredibly cheap 100mm 65kg/m3 glass wool slabs.
I presume that these are ok for insulation - a bit overkill but good nevertheless?
Broadband absorbers
What about for acoustic hangers?
I have read that denser fibreglass is no good for deep basstraps. I have space for 2 feet of bass trapping. Would loading it with 65kg/m3 glass wool be a bad idea? Its cheaper than even the fluffy standard loft type.

A bit on the heavy side for optimal bass trapping, That's about twice the density that fiberglass needs to be for that. I wouldn't use it inside an MSM wall cavity or a bass trap, but it should be good for mids and highs. However, it would be best to get the manufacturer's actual lab tests, to see just how good or bad they might be. You never know for sure unless you have the real data...

Hey Stuart
When people say standard 30kg/m3 fluffy fibreglass insulation as in US it is very frustrating for us over in Europe because it seems impossible to find anything equivalent.
Most "standard" attic style fluffy fibreglass insulation here is half as dense - between 10-15kg/m3 like Isover spacesaver. Awesomely cheap but would it be any use? For trapping and/or damping in MSM walls?
Getting gas flow data from these companies is very hard from experience also.

Isover Acoustic Roll APR1200 is about 25kg/m3 but almost 4 times as expensive. This would seem the most equivalent here to the pink fluffy stuff but the deals are not as good as in US.

Does anyone know a product available in UK thats as good a deal
