Help me design my new studio

Post by danielkelaart »

Hi everyone. My wife and I are building our first house :yahoo: I am re-locating my studio to our new house. Unfortunately we can't make too many changes to our plan, but we can construct additional walls. I have two rooms that I can basically do whatever I want with (Rumpus and Bed 4) I have attached our floorpan from our builder.

Goals/Things to consider:
1. Create a Control Room and Live Room.
2. All of the recording of live/loud instruments will be in the hours of 9am -5pm. There is no one home during these hours so noise isn't an issue during the day. However, I will need some isolation between the Control Room and Live Room when recording drums.
3. I will be mixing/editing/vocals at night, so I want to make sure the Control Room is soundproofed well enough to not annoy the rest of the family.
4. I don't often track bands 'live'. I would be recording one instrument at a time.
5. My console is a 4.5m W x 1.4 D. I will be shortening the board to 3.7m however. I also have a fair bit of rack gear that would need to be considered in the control room as well as a dozen amp heads.

I have attached a rough idea I brainstormed of the studio layout. Would love to know your thoughts/advice/help :)
