Hi all!
I want to move my studio to my new home. I have 2 rooms on the first floor available.
Now I am thinking about the layout for my control room.
I never planned a studio so this is my debut
I made a sketch but unfortunately I learned that I'm a total sketchup rookie...so this is all I can come up with...I hope it works for the purpose
I chose the bigger room of the two to be the control room. Both rooms have a slope on one side and they're connected with a door that I want to change into a control room window.
As I learned it is most important for the stereo image to be symetric, I thought it would be best to have the slope in the back or the front of the room. For communication purposes I thought it would be best to place the console in front of the control room window and let trhe speakers fire down to the slope. This brought me to the next problem...the speakers would fire down the width of the room so space is a problem. which brought me to the idea to flush mount the monitors to gain a little space.I thought about adding bass treatment in the corners of the slope side of the room.
What do you guys think about this? Is there a chance this could work? or does anyone have some other ideas?
I also added a sketch with the "empty" rooms.
Any help is much appreciated
Thanks a lot in advance
Cheers
Tom

Re: Studio layout concerns
For that size control room, I would go with a lengthwise setup, with the speakers firing down the long axis of the room, then I'd just modify the ceiling to make it symmetrical, acoustically, as needed.
So I'd suggest rotating the room 90° and modifying your soffit to fit the correct speaker layout for that orientation, add in the initial treatment, then post a new SketcHup model, with the updates in it.

Flush mounting is an EXCELLENT idea, and very recommendable... but it won't save you any space. In fact, it will use up extra space, due to the construction of the soffit itself. However, I would still suggest that you do soffit-mounting anyway, regardless of which way you set up your room.which brought me to the idea to flush mount the monitors to gain a little space.
You will definitely need bass trapping in several corners of the room! At the very least, in the two vertical corners at the rear of the room, and also inside the lower section of the speaker soffits, under the speaker shelf, and probably a couple of other corners too. It is a small room, so it will need a lot of bass trapping.I thought about adding bass treatment in the corners of the slope side of the room.
