Is this MLV?
Yes, that's MLV, but it is the lighter weight stuff, 1 PSF. There's also heavier stuff, around 2 PSF, that would be better for what you want.
Between lead and MLV for the door, any preference?
I'd probably go with the lead, if I could afford it, and if some silly environmentalist doesn't come up with a law to prevent anyone ever using lead again! :) But MLV would work fine too...

Ok, let me start over then and ask you

1-how should I thicken my doors? Lead, mvl, GG, MDF ¾", number of layers, order?
2-If Lead is too expensive, what would you suggest as plan B?

I only have two solid wood doors right now.

Rod recommends lead when you have one door, but he doesn't really recommend adding anything when you have two.
Though I'm sure he's not against it, speaking about two doors at the end of page 105, he says:
Although you save the cost of the sheet lead and cabinet grade plywood, you will have to purchase two times as much gasketing...

Thanks for your help

I want to improve my two solid wood doors.

To do that, I want to add this to each door:
-Green Glue
-3/8" MDF
-Sheet Lead OR 2psf MLV
-3/8" MDF

I know lead is better than MLV for doors, however, there are different thickness of Lead.
-1/32" (2psf) 149$Can for 4" X 8"
-1/16" (4psf) 290$Can for 4" X 8"
-1/8" (8psf)
-MLV (2psf) 149$US for 4" X 10"

So do you think that 1/32" of sheet lead (2psf) would be more effective than 2psf of MLV?
It seems like the same to me, except MLV is limp mass. Would that be an advantage?

Thanks

I'd agree: it's probably about the same. Not much difference.
