I'm not sure this is what I was after, but as you said, it's just a start. This reference is great for comparing materials (and the absorbtion coefficients thereof). In fact, I'm not sure that the phpBB software can do what I was thinking of.

I'll wait until I see what you come up with as time goes by. In the meantime, I might play with some sort of "thesaurus" app that I could put up on my website.

Well, Im 99% sure ive found the products Newell refers to as waste felt and deadsheet , because he mentions them by name as PKB2, and A1.

I finally discovered the name of this products while on a job site at Microsoft a couple weeks ago while doing an AV install of about 300 rooms. They were installing a track system that the fabric is secured to, and the insulation panels were attached to the walls.
