I've been updating from version 3.08 to version 3.09.
I've also added a new puzzle for the registration process so hopefully the spambots will be unsuccessful in registering.
I should say it's a truly frightening experience as one slight error could bring the whole site down!!
Looks like it didn't work, John: I just had to delete a dozen posts from a spambot and ban it. They are still getting through. Looks like the reason we had no spam over the weekend was because the registration mechanism was broken!
Is there anyway you can set up the registration process so that a new user's first post has to be approved by a moderator before he can continue posting freely? I've seen forums like that, and they work pretty well at catching the vast majority of bots.
sheesh - only a couple got through - as I said, leave them to me as I can delete all their posts in one go and ban their IP. It's stopped the computer generated spam, these must have been real people spamming the site.
that's the beauty of spare time (of which i have had none/very little for many weeks now... but hopefully when this large system i'm working on goes live in a couple of weeks...)
Thank you for all your hard work and for the forum in general. A great improvement now that I don't have to see handbag and SPAM FOR OUTRAGEOUSLY TERRIBLE SHOES BLOCKED spam.
