Rockwool in Australia

Post by Kookaburra »

Hello everyone,

I've tried to find rockwool in Australia and was just shocked by prices. I'm looking for matts with density 100 kg/m3 and 50 mm and 100 mm thickens. I know only 2 suppliers - Bradford and FM Insulation. The prices are around 100$ per m3!!!!!! I'm not building a royal castel... I just want to build a control room........ :( :( :( :(

Thanks

consider using lighter insulation 15kg/m3 for air cavities between walls, slat air cavities, and behind the rigid insulation on corners. then use the rigid 100mm stuff for first reflection points, cloud, and back wall. consider compressing the light insulation where needed.

Thank you for the information.

Finally I have find some Indonesian rockwool a bit cheaper than australian. It's high density, for bass traps. For general purposes, on the walls I have a choice between fletcher's glasswool batts and some polyester acoustic batts....

Hope to get my control room by Christmas

High density? For BASS TRAPS??? Are you SURE about that? How is that going to work? 100 kg/m3 is waaaay too dense for bass trapping, if you ask me.

Contrary to popular belief, higher density is WORSE for bass trapping than low density, not better. Bass trapping is usually accomplished with lower density, while high frequency absorption benefits from higher density, but 100 kg/m3 is overboard.

Like Glenn and John said: 15 or 30 kg/m3 is much more like it for bass traps. Maybe even 45 kg/m3, depending on the type of insulation. But if you go much higher than that, then you start losing effectiveness for low frequencies
