GYM Matting Sound absorption?

Post by leon.payne »

I was asked a question last night but can seem to find an answers for it.
The Matting that you find in gyms, usually found in 1/2 or 3/4 inch thickness, anyone know how much they reduce db?
Ive seen many people use them to isolate floors in there studio's but what if you incorporated it in to your wall designs? :?

I doubt if that would work very well, unless yo can find specific detailed acoustic information on the specif mats that you have available.

I once tried to use gym mats (before I knew better) to help the acoustics in a small school hall where I had to run live sound for an event: it didn't work very well.

I use them under wall framing on uneven concrete floors - I also float floor joists on strips of them for a timber floor over a concrete floor. All the timber floors in Left bank and Oasis are floating on strips of that foam matting.

But he's talking about using them on walls, John. As acoustic treatment. At least, that's what I understood???
